                Zachary Al-Khatib's Bio

I am a defence lawyer and founder of ZK Law, where I handle criminal trials, appeals, professional discipline, employment matters, and select civil cases. My practice centers on managing complex legal challenges that span multiple areas of law simultaneously.

My experience on both sides of the bench provides a unique perspective that benefits my clients. As a former judicial clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada (2018-2019) and the Alberta Court of Appeal, I developed insight into how courts evaluate cases and make decisions.

At ZK Law, I believe legal representation is about more than winning favorable decisions—it's about helping clients achieve their overall goals while navigating the justice system with dignity. I walk each person through every step of their case, explaining the process clearly and compassionately.

I currently serve as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Alberta while maintaining my practice.

              Approach

I craft persuasive arguments by drawing on my judicial clerkship experience and exposure to diverse cases. I use every available resource to my client's advantage and never shy away from taking the difficult path when it's the right one.

              Education and Recognition

My academic achievements include multiple distinctions from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, including the Gowlings WLG Prize in Trial Advocacy, Jerry S. Grafstein Prize in Communications Law, Blakes Scholar Award, Dean's Key, and the Stephanie Fleur Couzin Mooting Medal. I was also honored with the Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award and recognition in the Callaghan Memorial Cup Moot.
