    Overview

Victoria Masciopinto is a Partner at Pedersen & Houpt, serving as a member of the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Victoria has concentrated her practice exclusively in the area of family law since 1990. Victoria became interested in family law after working every summer as an intern court clerk for the Circuit Court of Cook County during her high school and college years. She initially practiced law with Pedersen & Houpt from 1996 through 2003, when she took a professional sabbatical to raise her children. In 2014, she returned to rejoin her Pedersen & Houpt litigation colleagues again practicing exclusively in family law, including: sophisticated divorce, parentage and wealth preservation matters.

As a seasoned family law practitioner, Victoria works with the firm's clients to help them resolve conflicts incident to sophisticated divorce, including asset classification, valuation and division of complex assets, income tracing, and spousal maintenance. Victoria specifically litigates all pre- and post-decree divorce litigation and assists clients with wealth preservation, including negotiating and drafting all types of premarital and post-nuptial agreements.

She is particularly committed to protecting the interests of children, handling various complex parentage matters throughout her career, including contested domestic and international custody, child relocation and grandparent disputes. She routinely educates her clients about various forms of co-parenting available to parents. She is trained as a volunteer facilitator for Rainbows International, an organization which helps children better cope with difficult life situations and has also provided pro bono legal services to the Family Shelter Service of DuPage County. Victoria is also a trained mediator who focuses her practice on alternative dispute resolution to avoid contested litigation whenever possible.

Conversant in Spanish, she received her B.A. in Spanish Business Translation and Communications and studied a year abroad at the University of Seville, in Seville, Spain.

      Representative Transactions

        * Successfully represented the mother in divorce proceedings where the father filed a petition for sole custody of the couple's' severely disabled adopted child. Victoria convinced the court to force the husband to voluntarily dismiss his petition or otherwise face sanctions, in order to gain an advantage in the financial aspects of the divorce proceedings.
        * Provided pro bono services at the Family Shelter Service's Advocacy Center in DuPage County
